B2B freelance writer pricing

Many freelancers skirt around the whole pricing discussion. I don't.

I understand that you need to make decisions quickly. There's no point in setting up and having an initial call, only to get to the whole "rates" thing and figure out we're not a good fit. That's a waste of time for both of us. You'll therefore find my indicative rates below.

I can process payments in British Pound, U.S. Dollar, and the Euro. Payment options include local bank transfer (UK, EU, and U.S. clients only) and credit card via Stripe (got to collect those points!) I do not take payments via PayPal unless absolutely necessary and the client agrees to cover the fees.

Day rates

If you're looking to engage me on a short-term basis, my day rate will usually be the best option. This is currently £600. Discounts of up to 25% are available for bookings of five days or more.

Fixed project rates

Most of my work can be slotted into three categories (but there are exceptions): articles and blogs; white papers and e-books; and case studies.

Articles and blogs form the backbone of Internet content. I don't need to tell you that regularly publishing articles and blogs can work wonders for SEO (but there's far more to it than keywords!) My rate for a typical blog post of 700 to 1,200 words in length is around £400.

White papers are high-value, high-input assets backed by original ideas and research. Done right, these can help to establish brands as thought leaders and encourage customers to come to you first. The price reflects this: my white papers start from £2,500.

Case studies turn your customers into brand advocates by showcasing success stories. These start at £600 plus VAT for a standard one-pager where you've already interviewed the customer. Longer case studies or projects that require me to develop and conduct interviews start from £1,200.

Retainer arrangements

If you're looking for a long-term engagement of six months or more to get several content assets over the line, working on a retainer arrangement reserves a fixed number of days per month for your work.

Since retainers are subject to contract, it allows me to work at a far more competitive price than if I were to bill my day rate or charge for each individual content asset. A retainer agreement for five days per month over a six month term, for example, is around £2,200 per month paid in advance.
